| "And she loves it. She stares at me like who does this?" - Drake |
Aside from love and money, music is another one of those things that makes the world go 'round. I seriously doubt if a single day has passed in my lifetime where I haven't listened to song. As I've often stated, good music absolutely feeds my soul, whether in the form of calm or ignition.
In no particular order I've listed my ten favorite songs of '12. My fave of them all written in BOLD letters.
- Mr. Wrong - Mary J. Blige
- Daughters - Nas
- Fool For You - Cee Lo & Melanie Fiona
- 4AM - Melanie Fiona
- Next Breath - Tank
- Refill - Elle Varner
- New God Flow - Kanye West & Pusha T
- Exodus 23:1 - Pusha T
- No Such Thing As Too Late - Brandy
- Fuckin' Problems - A$AP Rocky feat. Drake, 2Chainz, Kendrick Lamar

No Miguel? Adorn is my top song of the year.
ReplyDeleteI try to like Elle Varner but she sounds like a cat in heat when she sings.
Can you believe I've never heard the song Adorn? Not a Miguel fan, at all. Lotus Flower Bomb is a good song though.
DeleteAdorn is niiiiice! Have you heard it yet?
DeleteGreat list.
ReplyDeleteI love Mary J Blige, and Elle Varner especially.
Recently saw Varner perform live, seated so closely I was nearly sitting on stage.
DeleteMary J. Blige, I LOVE this woman.
Blessings and happy new year.
ReplyDeleteI can't say i LOVE all her songs but there are a few I like. There are many artist for whom i enjoy their music: Luther, Patti, Levert,Mary Mary, Kirk, Chrisette Michelle and the list goes on, i dare say though that the only one i found that i enjoyed the whole album is Heather Headley-its the album with songs like HE IS, I WISH I WASN'T, AM I WORTH IT, IN MY MIND. I love her vocals and delivery and I am yet to find a song of hers I don't enjoy.
Happy New Year, Much blessings and love throughout.
peace.
Headley is an exceptional gospel artist. I'm familiar with the I Wish I Wasn't and He Is. Mary Mary is my fave gospel artists.
DeleteHappy New Year to you as well. Many blessings.
Heather is THE TRUTH Though (YUP...)
DeleteHey Don! Pretty cool list. I love Elle Varner's "Refill".
ReplyDeleteI wish you a very Happy New Year. Here's to an abundance of good health and happiness for 2013 :)
There is a three-year old relative of mine that has me loving the song Refill. She performed and we videotaped the performance. When I say, "Laughter." I mean, we laughed for days and days.
DeleteHappy New Year to you and yours as well, Shelly. Good health, Happiness, continued blessings.
I did a similar list... Refill was the only one we had in common!! Good list...:)
ReplyDeleteElle Varner will forever be known for that song. Lol.
DeleteI'm with Val, Adorn is a great song!! One of my favs!!
ReplyDeleteBut Nas is number 2. I haven't been following new music this year, I know some songs but not all... i'm still off my jagged edge and other R&B artist. LOL
You already know I'm old school to the heart so, yes, Jagged Edge is one of my fave old school artists. Many of my often-listened love songs are JC classics.
DeleteNice current list..... Can't believe no Adorn though. I also became attached to Wicked Games by The Weekend I believe.
ReplyDeleteSome great selections on the list. I love Elle Varner's cd. Miguel was hot and the new SWV was in constant rotation for me as well.
ReplyDeleteNONE of Todays music interest me AT ALL (Especially ANYTHING That's Hip-POP...) And I doubt very seriously if I'm MISSING ANYTHING Truly Special or Significant (No Shade Intended Whatsoever...) Just posting Bruh
ReplyDeleteI could listen to that 'Fool for You' track repeatedly. I liked 'Refill' as well. Elle has joined Jill Scott, Sade, Claire Huxtable, and Erykah Badu on my list of girl crushes.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the song Fool For You. Absolutely. Love me some Claire Huxtable as well.
DeleteMusic is a great soul healer fixes every and any angry mood. I agree with some of the comments. Adorn by Miguel got my vote this year. I also became a great fan of some underated vocalists including lizz wright, ledisi, Childish Gambino and Nneka.
ReplyDeleteWhen we talking jams am old skool 90's all the way Blackstreet, Gerald Levert, Joe list is endless. I miss the 90's stuff.
